This gluten free apple crumble tart has a beautiful pie crust filled with cinnamon apples and topped with a gluten free crumble topping. It is such a comforting dessert to have when those darker nights come in and always a regular fall bake. It feels so satisfying to have topped with ice cream, Chantilly cream, or my favorite hot custard.
When I started to think of what winter gluten free desserts I wanted to develop, I first thought of gluten free apple pie and gluten free apple blueberry crumble as these have always been a favorite of mine.
So why choose between them when we can have the best of both? That's when the start of my gluten free apple crumble pie development started and I am sure that you won't be disappointed and have since used this recipe as a base for my gluten-free rhubarb crumble.
It's apple season and some of my favorite gluten free apple recipes are my gluten free apple pie bars, gluten free apple cake, Gluten free apple overnight oats, and Chocolate covered apples.

Ingredients
Gluten free pie crust recipe
- You can use a store-bought ready-made pie crust for this recipe. I used my gluten free shortcrust pastry which also has all the steps for blind baking the gluten free pastry case.
- If you prefer you could also use ready-made gluten-free pastry.
Gluten free crumble topping
- Gluten free plain flour - (Gluten free all purpose flour) I used doves free from gluten free plain flour but you can use your preferred gluten free brand.
- Butter
- Xanthan Gum - A regular ingredient in gluten free baking. Binds the mixture and acts as gluten normally would.
- Light brown sugar - You can also use white sugar if preferred. I like the flavor of the brown sugar crumble.
Apple pie filling
- Apples - (approx 3-4 apples) Peeled and sliced - I used Bramley apples. I have also used granny smiths, gala and pink lady in this recipe in the past. This will also work well with your preferred apple variety.
- Light brown sugar - I love brown sugar apple pie but if you only have white sugar available you can substitute the brown sugar for white sugar.
- Ground Cinnamon
- Lemon juice - A little lemon juice stops the apples from discoloring. If you don't have any lemon juice don't worry you can still make the apple crumble tart without it.
Equipment
- Pie dish - I used a 9 inch round loose bottom tart tin.

- Place your sliced apples in a bowl.
- Add the sugar to the apples and mix until all the apple slices are coated with the sugar.
- Add the cinnamon and lemon juice to the sliced apples and mix until the apples are fully coated.
- Place the prepared sliced apples evenly into your pre-made gluten free pastry. Spread them evenly within the pie dish.
- Then with the gluten free crumble mixture that you prepared earlier, with a large spoon gently spoon the crumbs and cover the layer of apples evenly.
- Carefully place the pie dish in the center of the oven for approx 35-40 minutes until the crumble is golden brown.
- You will know when the pie is ready when using a knife it slides easily through the apples. If the pastry crust is browning too fast in the oven you can cover the edges with foil to prevent it from browning further.
