Delight in the velvety, creamy goodness of a homemade Nutella milkshake recipe, requires just 4 ingredients and is ready in less than 5 minutes!

If you are a fan of Nutella chocolate spread and chocolate milkshake then this Nutella shake will be just the drink for you. It is thick, smooth, and velvety with a delicious nutty undertone that just makes Nutella so irresistible.

Two Nutella milkshakes topped with cream and red and white striped straws beside a jar of Nutella.

This summer we have been experimenting in the kitchen making delicious cold milkshakes to cool down on hot days like our thick banana milkshake, fresh strawberry shake, and thick chocolate shake.

This milkshake with Nutella has become a fast favorite to serve as an after-dinner treat and the kids love being served these when we have a family gathering or BBQ.

We always have Nutella on hand and love adding it to various recipes such as my Nutella chocolate twists and Gluten free chocolate pop tarts.

⭐ Why we love this recipe

    • Made in under 5 minutes - I love being able to put together this tasty treat as it only takes a few minutes to make.
    • Only 4 ingredients - I would say if you are a fan of Nutella and ice cream then chances are you will have all the ingredients already at home. A great way to satisfy those chocolate cravings with this Nutella shake.
    • Gluten free - Use gluten-free vanilla ice cream and can easily be made dairy-free if required (See substitutions further down the post).
    • Thick and Creamy - Deliciously thick and creamy just as a milkshake should be in my opinion easily adaptable to make it even thicker or thinner to suit your own personal preference.
    • Easily adaptable recipe - This Nutella milkshake makes two large shakes but the recipe can easily be scaled up or down for however many you need to make.

    📋 Ingredients Notes

Labeled ingredients for Nutella shake recipe.
    • Vanilla ice cream -  The ice cream will add sweetness and create a luxuriously creamy and thick texture. Make sure to check that the ice cream is gluten free. If you require a vegan or dairy free Nutella shake check out the substitutions below.
    • Milk - I opted for whole milk as using milk with a higher fat content will yield a creamier Nutella shake. However, feel free to use your preferred type of milk or opt for a dairy-free alternative if you prefer.
    • Vanilla extract - I used high-quality vanilla extract to enhance the flavor, creating a perfect complement to the Nutella and ice cream.
    • Nutella Chocolate Spread - The star of the show! It wouldn't be a Nutella shake without it. Although there are very good alternative hazelnut chocolate spreads out there if you require a cheaper option or are following a vegan or dairy free diet.

See the recipe card below for ingredient measurements.

    ⚡ Substitutions & Variations

    • Nutella - If you don't have Nutella, you can use any other chocolate hazelnut spread.
    • Vegan or Dairy Free - Substituting the Nutella, Ice cream, and milk with Vegan hazelnut spread, Soy or Almond milk, and Vegan ice cream will make a delicious Vegan Nutella shake.
    • Coffee Nutella Milkshake - Add a shot of espresso or some instant coffee granules for a delightful coffee-flavored Nutella shake.
    • Mint Chocolate Nutella Milkshake - Add a dash of mint extract and a few chocolate chips for a refreshing twist on the classic.
