Easter rice Krispie treats on a white surface.

These treats offer an ideal blend of crispy texture, luscious marshmallows, and silky white chocolate drizzle. They're a great addition to your spring gluten free picnic food or Easter basket. It's hard not to fall in love with them!

We took inspiration from our Valentine's heart-shaped Krispy treats and wanted to add a fun and easy gluten free Krispie bar to our gluten free easter desserts. My daughter came up with the idea of adding the mini KitKat chocolate bars which make them look so cute and fun.

If you are looking for more fun easter dessert ideas that the kids will love you have to try my Creme egg brownies, Mini egg cookies, and Mini easter cheesecakes.

    Is Rice Krispies gluten free?

Kellogg's Rice Krispies are produced with malt sourced from barley, which contains gluten, rendering the product not gluten-free.

However, there are several brands of gluten-free Rice Krispies that are safe for consumption. While some store brands may also be gluten-free, it's recommended that you always verify the label to ensure that they don't contain any gluten-containing ingredients.

I have put a list below of some popular Gluten-free rice Krispies options. You might also want to check out my post for what cereals are gluten-free.

    • Nature’s Path Organic Crispy Rice Cereal
    • Nestlé GoFree Rice Pops Cereal
    • Freedom Foods Rice Puffs
    • Store Free From Range- Many stores such as Aldi, Morrisons, Walmart, and Tesco's have a Free from range that includes Cereals.
    • Malt-O-Meal Crispy Rice Cereal (gluten-free version)

It's important to note that different countries may have different brands available and it's always best to check the label for the gluten-free certification or any other information related to gluten content.

⭐ Why we love this recipe

    • Kid-friendly - This makes for a fun easter activity as the kids will love making and decorating these easter Rice Krispie Treats.
    • Easily made gluten free - I used Nestle Gofree rice pops to ensure that the easter squares were gluten free but you can use your preferred brand.
    • Quick and easy - This no bake recipe is perfect if you don't want to put the oven on or want quick and easy easter Rice Krispie treats.
    • Customizable - Can be decorated to suit your preferred theme or what easter sprinkles or chocolate you have available to you.

    📋 Ingredients Notes

Labeled ingredients for Rice Krispie easter treats.
    • Marshmallows - Melting the marshmallows create that delicious chewy texture and bind all the rice Krispies together to help keep their shape.
    • Rice Krispies Cereal - To ensure that the Rice Krispie treats were gluten-free, I used Nestle Gofree rice pops. However, feel free to use your preferred brand for the recipe.
    • KitKat Bunny Bar- I decorated it with the Kit Kat chocolate bunny but you can top it with your preferred easter candy or chocolate.
    • White Chocolate - Although I have a preference for white chocolate, you can use any type of chocolate that suits your taste, be it dark or milk chocolate. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can substitute the chocolate with candy melts. Always be sure to check that you are using gluten free chocolate if you are following a gluten-free diet.
    • Food coloring  - Optional

See the recipe card below for ingredients measurements.

    ⚡ Substitutions & Variations

    • Decorate with Sprinkles - To make add more easter fun to the Easter rice Krispie treats use your preferred colorful gluten free sprinkles.
    • Add M&Ms - You can also top it with chocolate M&Ms which I have used in my Holiday popcorn recipe. M & M's are gluten free in most countries but check my gluten free candy for more information and always check the label to be sure.
    • Desired aesthetic or theme - You can experiment with various cookie-cutter shapes. For instance, I've created Valentine's Day treats in heart shapes and utilized Christmas tree cutters for Christmas treats, which I then decorated with colorful chocolate and sprinkles.

    🥣 Step by Step Instructions

Below is a brief step-by-step process with photos of how to make Easter Rice Krispie Treats. See the recipe card below for more detailed recipe instructions.

Marshmallows and butter being melted in a pan.

Step 1: Over medium heat, gradually melt the butter and marshmallows in a non-stick pan. Stir constantly to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Step 2: Once the marshmallows have fully melted add in the vanilla extract.

Pouring melted marshmallows into a bowl of rice Krispie's.

Step 3: Pour the melted marshmallow mixture into the Rice Krispies in a large bowl, being careful not to spill. Gently mix the Rice Krispies together with the melted marshmallows until the cereal is fully coated.

Step 4: Transfer the Rice Krispie mixture to the prepared baking sheet and press down until it's compact, approximately 2 cm thick. Allow it to set.

Tip: I find it easiest to press down gently with a piece of parchment paper as the Rice Krispy easter treats can be very sticky when being transferred into the tin.

Decorating Rice Krispie treats with KitKat chocolate bunny bars.

Step 5: Melt the white chocolate in the microwave in short bursts. Once melted use a couple of drops of food coloring if desired. Then drizzle over the Easter rice Krispie treats. Top with your preferred decorations when the chocolate is still melted. Leave to set.

Step 6: Once fully set. Slice into your desired-sized Rice Krispie easter treats and enjoy!
